Episode 3 - Feminine VS Masculine Energy

In episode 3 of Rooted Feminine, I’m discussing the nuances of Feminine versus Masculine Energy.

Here’s what we’re exploring:

  • Polarity is not gendered and should not be thought of in binary constructs.

  • We should focus on complementing each other rather than competing or measuring up.

  • The importance of embodying our soul's truth requires going beyond surface level and dropping into the sacredness of energies.

Tune in to the podcast to gain a more comprehensive understanding of masculine and feminine energy and how they can be used to balance our lives.

Show Notes:

Hey sister. Welcome to episode three of Rooted Feminine. The other day, I was on Instagram and I saw all these memes portraying women's thinkers as open flowers with dripping nectar, talking about feminine energy and feminine magic. While the seductress and sex kitten archetypes are part of the divine feminine, they don't represent the entirety of it.

We're not just sacred seductresses or sex objects. That aspect is beautiful, fun, and powerful, and we'll definitely explore it on the show and within the Rooted Collective. However, feminine energy encompasses more than that. So today, let's break it down to basics and discuss what feminine and masculine energy truly are in their entirety, not the distorted versions we see on Instagram. Let's explore the differences between these energies and why it's important to acknowledge and understand them.

There's a lot of confusion in the spirituality space right now, especially with these limited representations that only focus on the sex kitten or the mother archetype. This issue doesn't only affect femininity or women. In the online space, there are also teachings about the divine masculine that take a narrow view. This is particularly evident in the realm of relationships.

For instance, some claim that if you want to attract a radiant, sexy divine feminine, you must be an uber-masculine man with no emotions, just focusing on the gym. On the other hand, if you desire a masculine man who can provide and lead, you're expected to be soft, dainty, radiant, and receptive, without having opinions. Of course, I'm exaggerating, but this pattern is quite prevalent.

If you're single and want to predominantly embody your feminine energy, while seeking a masculine man who embodies his masculine energy, that's wonderful. It's a legitimate desire, and I'm not dismissing that.

It's important to understand that the seductress and the sex kitten archetypes are just a small part of the sacred feminine and divine masculine energies. We're dealing with divinity here, with infinite possibilities. The divine is boundless and there are countless ways in which these energies can manifest. The purpose of categorizing them into archetypes is to help our limited human minds grasp the concept of divinity, both within and outside of ourselves.

It's crucial to remember that these categories serve as a tool for comprehension and embodiment, but they also limit and restrict the vastness of these energies. While I teach multiple archetypes beyond Madonna, horror, seductress, or maiden, such as softness, playfulness, and youthfulness, there are many more. Just as there are numerous archetypes of the feminine, there are also many archetypes of the masculine, like the sage, the warrior, and the magician, which represent masculine aspects of divinity.

Approaching this topic requires a sense of spiritual knowing, and the more we learn spiritually, the more we realize how little we actually know. I recently heard a quote at a conference in Tampa for Hay House, where one of the presenters said, "The more I learn about my spirituality, the more I realize I don't know anything." Therefore, we should approach this exploration with curiosity and openness. We're not here to have all the answers because that wouldn't be fun or enjoyable. Masculine energy tends to seek clarity and conciseness, while feminine energy embraces a more fluid and nebulous nature, finding joy in the process.

Now, let's delve into these two energies, teasing them apart and providing a more comprehensive explanation of what they are. We'll discuss them in their entirety, not just focusing on the parts that are considered sexy or popular on Instagram. The promotion of such narrow ideas only serves to reinforce the patriarchy, making us feel like we have to conform to a particular way that ultimately benefits men. That's not what Rooted Feminine is about.

When we limit ourselves to simplistic explanations of masculine and feminine, it holds us back and prevents us from fully embracing our sacred energies.

Living solely in our heads and accepting the narratives imposed by the patriarchy and systems of oppression keeps us trapped and limits our perception. To truly tap into the sacred and divine, we must expand our awareness. It's when we drop into the depths and hidden realities, bringing our mysticism to the forefront, that we find the truth.

Remaining on the surface level only keeps our spirituality basic and reinforces our role in serving the systems. If you're listening to this show, it's because you're not drawn to surface-level understanding. You want to embody your soul's truth and go deeper.

By delving into the sacredness of masculine and feminine energies, we embrace our magical uniqueness and step into our power. Understanding the true differences and complimentary aspects of these energies allows us to recognize how they manifest in various aspects of our lives, such as our businesses, families, and relationships—not just in dating.

It's important to note that embracing our masculine and feminine energies is not about adhering to a strict binary construct. Polarity exists on a spectrum, and it's individualistic. For instance, one person living authentically in their soul's truth may naturally embody 90% feminine and 10% masculine, regardless of their gender. Another person may express 70% masculine and 30% feminine, even if they are a biological woman. We need to move away from binary thinking and embrace the idea of energetic play and ratios.

Our goal is not to compete with or measure up against others but to complement each other. Each of us has a unique ratio and expression that should be honored and embraced in its fullest form.

Absolutely. It's important to consider the concept of an average ratio over time when discussing our natural predispositions to masculine and feminine energies. Currently, with the move and various responsibilities I have to manage and balance, I find myself leaning more towards the masculine. I've been functioning and focusing excessively, consciously drawing in my feminine energy. If I were predominantly feminine at this moment, nothing would be accomplished. Tasks like packing boxes for the move would be left untouched, waiting for some magical solution. That wouldn't serve me well.

In equilibrium, I believe we have a natural ratio, but there are times in our lives when our ratio needs to shift. We need to show up for ourselves, our loved ones, our work, and our businesses in different capacities. This understanding can even be rooted in ancient wisdom. If we think back to hunter-gatherer days, although I can't consciously remember them, their memory resides within me through mitochondrial DNA and ancestral connections. Perhaps, on some level, I even had a past life during that era, as could anyone else, as cellular memory is a part of all of us.

In those times, there were likely lazy or easy days, where we would pick ripe strawberries and then relax by the river. But there were also days when we faced the urgency of harvesting fields of squash or encountered dangerous predators like jaguars or wolves. These different situations required different energies. We are not separate from our environment. We don't create a spiritual bubble where we float along in a false, blissful version. The essence of embodiment and Rooted Feminine is co-creating active lives that honor and balance these energies.

We have the Earth as our home, and it exists within the vastness of outer space. Outer space can be seen as the container that holds everything, including our planet. This concept of masculine energy as a container is more abstract and mystical in nature.

On the other hand, feminine energy can be understood as receptive, flowing, and nurturing. It is symbolized by curves, circles, or a chalice. Feminine energy is about embracing the present moment, surrendering, and allowing things to unfold naturally. It is the energy of creation, intuition, and connection. Feminine energy is inclusive and seeks to harmonize with the environment.

Now, let's explore the ratio aspect a bit further. Our natural ratio may become more evident when we are in relaxed or non-threatening situations. However, our ratio can shift based on our needs and purpose at any given time. It's important to remember that these energies are not fixed, binary, or gendered. We have the power to intentionally utilize and balance these energies as they serve us. This co-creation with our divinity and the universe is where our true power lies.

Understanding these energies can be as simple or esoteric as you prefer. It's helpful to have a cognitive understanding before embodying and experiencing them in our bodies. Masculine energy can be associated with qualities such as focus, direction, accomplishment, and goal orientation. It is like a sharp and pointed phallic symbol, penetrating and changing situations. It holds a sense of individualized drive. Additionally, masculine energy can be seen as the container or awareness that holds everything, like the way Father Sky surrounds and holds Mother Earth.

Feminine energy, on the other hand, embodies qualities of receptivity, flow, nurturing, and the ability to embrace the present moment. It is represented by curves, circles, or a chalice symbol. Feminine energy is about surrendering, intuition, and connection. It seeks to harmonize with the environment and is inclusive in nature.

Remember, these explanations are not rigid, but rather serve as entry points to understanding these energies. The true essence lies in the experience and embodiment of them in our unique expressions and ratios.

Planet Earth is spinning due to its gravitational orbit around the Sun. The orbit is vital as it keeps Earth at a distance from the Sun that allows life to thrive. This concept can be analogized to understand the interplay between masculine and feminine energies. The orbit, representing the force that keeps Earth in check and provides structure, can be likened to masculine energy. On the other hand, the flourishing life on Earth represents feminine energy, which embodies exuberance and existence.

The problem arises when society, through patriarchal lenses, views the masculine as controlling and superior. This perspective has led to the notion that the masculine is indispensable, while the feminine is often undermined. Feminine power, in essence, is just as potent and perhaps arguably more so. Unfortunately, societal norms have sometimes demeaned or undervalued feminine energy, leading individuals with more feminine attributes, regardless of biological sex, to suppress or alter these traits.

Now, if we visualize these energies through shapes, the masculine energy can be thought of as a pyramid pointing upwards, while the feminine energy is akin to a chalice, an inverted pyramid with the open end facing up. The two shapes are complementary, symbolizing how masculine and feminine energies can harmoniously coexist.

It's important to note that feminine energy, being soft and receptive, doesn't equate to being weak. Unlike the pointed focus of masculine energy, feminine energy embodies surrender and trust. There's a strength in this surrender, as it allows one to be open to receiving and embracing what is destined without the need for control.

In contrast to the piercing, individualized, and accomplishment-driven nature of masculine energy, feminine energy is characterized by collectiveness, love, and community.

In summary, masculine and feminine energies are inverses of each other, neither superior nor inferior. They are complementary forces meant to harmonize. This should not be misinterpreted as implying that men and women must be together, but rather that these energies, regardless of gender, are meant to balance each other.

Feminine characteristics also include nurturing and flowing attributes. It’s crucial to recognize that the feminine is not limited to singular or stereotypical facets; there are infinite aspects to it. For example, besides the traditional archetypes like maiden, mother, or crone, there are myriad variations, such as the female warrior, who is both firm and fierce. She exhibits strength similar to a male warrior but channels different energies, fights for different reasons, and operates from different spaces.

Understanding the differences in these energies and how they complement each other is essential. These energies and archetypes can be seen in various representations such as myths, stories, and even modern-day movies. Storytelling often recycles these archetypes, so even if ancient stories don't resonate with you, you can still find these energies depicted in contemporary narratives.

Now, let's discuss how these energies interact as polarities and ratios, and how they can be utilized in different situations. The objective is not to be 100% feminine or 100% masculine; rather, it's about identifying our natural inclination towards a certain energy and realizing that different circumstances may require different energies. One’s natural inclination can adapt and respond to various environments.

For instance, if you're running a business, there will be times when you need to tap into your masculine energy to be focused and goal-oriented. Such energy helps you penetrate through challenges and get things done efficiently. An example from the speaker’s own experience: recording multiple podcasts in a day required planning and execution, which are traits associated with masculine energy.

However, it’s unlikely for someone to be completely immersed in feminine energy while being disconnected from societal responsibilities such as bills, work, etc. Though the idea of living free-spiritedly, without the confines of societal norms might be appealing, it’s not practically viable for most. The focus here is on how these energies can be effectively balanced in real-life scenarios.

In essence, people need to navigate through life juggling different energies based on the demands of various situations. It's not about exclusively embracing one energy but rather understanding and utilizing the interplay between both masculine and feminine energies in response to the environment and circumstances.

Most people are engaged in daily responsibilities such as taking care of children or attending to work commitments. Hence, it is imperative to consider practical examples when discussing the embodiment of masculine and feminine energies in our modern lives. For instance, though someone might have a natural inclination toward feminine energy, like the speaker who would prefer to relax and read a book, there are times when the activation of masculine energy is necessary.

To activate masculine energy, one might employ various techniques such as playing energetic music or engaging in physical movements that signal readiness. This mindset of ‘it’s go time’ is representative of masculine energy. However, it's important to understand that there are days to go full throttle and days to take a step back. This applies especially to individuals who are naturally very active and might need to sometimes tap into their feminine side for rest and ease.

Individuals have a natural state or ratio of masculine to feminine energy. Environmental stimuli and factors might necessitate adjustments in this ratio. The key is to recognize that masculine and feminine energies are distinct yet complementary, and not in competition. Every person, irrespective of gender, has their own blend of these energies. Staying in one’s natural state typically feels the most aligned, but environmental factors may call for flexibility. How one responds to these factors is within their control and power, and both energies – whether focused and driven or peaceful and surrendered – are accessible.
